We have a stopover at the farmlands of a village undisclosed on the valley trailing the mountains of Periyar Tiger Reserve in a bullock cart. The village is rich in bird diversity (New destination for serious bird watchers with vineyards, diverse agricultural crops of mangoes, tamarind, onions, sunflower, jasmine and a score of other vegetables, the village will take your breath away when the guide narrates to interpret how farming has woven delicately with the culture and the life of the natives. Periyar, with its wealth of natural offerings, is a birdwatcher's paradise. The area is home to over 500 species of indigenous and exotic birds.
This is a cruise, where we can see the animals such as elephants, gaurs, and bison along the serene lake, close to the boat, If possible make the trip closer to sunrise and sunset for better chances of spotting wildlife and experiences. A camera and binocular are highly recommended accessories.
A tremorous safari about 40 km in an open jeep will be a wonderful experience to explore. One can feel the fresh air and the beauty of the hill tops during this run. During the safari, the Jeep shall pass through the border of Periyar Tiger Reserve and viewers will get a chance to sight wild animals and also as jeep passes by many beautiful places with stunning and breathtaking views can be eye catchy.

At the hill top, you will get a panoramic view which will blow your mind with the view showing surrounding villages of Parunthumpara. On this journey we do cover the following places such as Parunthumpara, Mount Sathram, Sabarimala View , Pullumedu view , Vallakadavu (Gateway of Gavi).
These unique ecotourism happenings intend to entertain those who are desirous of experiencing the wilderness at night and contribute their part towards forest protection by joining the regular forest protection party as a paid volunteer. This is offered in three timing slots of three hours each and followed are the timings of this programme:07.00 PM to 10.00 PM,10.00 AM to 01.00 AM,01.00 AM to 04.00 AM.
Kerala is rich in spices as it is a part of our tradition and custom. Here the masters of Ayurveda have dedicated their lifespan to science for the well-being of mankind and discovered the use of spices for medicinal purposes. Spices also play an important role in the Kerala cuisine, non-ayurvedic medicine, and cosmetics. Periyar, due to its location in the lower mountains around 1000 meters above sea level is the only reason why it is blessed with numerous types of spices. Consequently, the spice plantation tour is one of the most important activities outside the reserve that a visitor can engage in.
It is an opportunity to see why the Kerala cuisine and style is so different from most of the other Indian cuisines. The tour gives you a chance to enjoy cardamom, pepper, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and many other varieties of spices and medicinal plants.
This program gives an opportunity to interact with the members of the house and thus the tourists get acquainted with local customs. House is situated Near Thekkady, 3 Km away from the’ Maddening crowed’, surrounded by spices like clove cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, all spices etc.

This unique program is being conducted by a team of poachers who turned protectors of the forests. The team members are hardy and dependable with an intimate knowledge of the forest terrain. The programs are 1 night/2 days and 2 nights/3 days. The first day’s trek starts at 9 am and ends at noon in the second or third day. The team consists of a maximum of 5 visitors, 5 guides, and 2 forest officials. Normally 20 to 35 km. of trekking distance will be covered, depending on the route chosen.
Different nature trails traversing diverse habitats form the trekking routes, generally 4 to 5 km. in length. This is an imperative program offering excellent opportunity to watch birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. The trails often pass through evergreen and moist deciduous forests with marshy green grasslands.
The program is offered between 7.00 am. and 10.30 am. and between 2.00 pm. and 5.00 pm. and lasts for about 3 hours. A maximum of 6 persons can go for trekking at a time along each nature trail, accompanied by a trained tribal guide. The Nature walk is the right program to feel nature, hear her whispers and smell her flowers.
Gavi, a picturesque land is one of the off-the-track destinations ideals for a wilderness retreat replete with trekking, birding, canoeing and facilities for boarding. There are hills and valleys, tropical forests, sprawling grasslands, sholas, cascading waterfalls and cardamom plantations. Endangered species including the elephant, Nilgiritahr, lion-tailed macaque will be often sighted at the outskirts of Gavi.
This program is having a jeep drive for two hours through the panoramic view of Tamil Nadu and enjoys the sight-seeing and one hour Spice plantation tour. On the way, you can see some commercial plantations of Cardamom, Pepper, Coffee. The main attraction is that you can see the processing of Cardamom. Spice plantation tour is in one of the most important activities outside the reserve that a visitor can engage in. A guide will be there to accompany you to explain about the spices and about the area which you cover.
This is a conservation oriented entertaining trek that takes all day. The trekking starts at 8 o’ clock in the morning and ends in the evening. The route passes through undulating terrains. Altitudinal ranges of 900 meters to 1300 meters will be covered and the trekkers could glimpse the lofty escarpments bordering the park watershed and the vast plains down below. Gaur, sloth bear, elephant, etc. are often sighted along this route apart from birds and butterflies.
This is a dawn to dusk range hiking and rafting program through some of the richest forest tracts of Periyar Tiger Reserve. Starting at 8 am from the boat landing, a mosaic of habitats will be traversed before the party gets into rafts made of bamboos.
The forests are rich in bird life and arboreal animals like giant squirrel and Nilgirilangur. The rafting is for about three hours and one gets a panoramic view of forest-clad hills reflected on the lake. Animals like elephant, gaur and sambar are sighted keeping close to the edges of the lake.
The jeep safari to Gavi, picturesque land, is the major off-the-track destination ideal for a wilderness retreat replete with trekking, birding, canoeing and facilities for boarding. This biological garden, with hills and valleys, tropical forests, sprawling grass lands, sholas, cascading waterfalls and cardamom plantation, is home to many endangered species like lion-tailed macaque; Nilgiritahrs etc. and they can be sighted also.
Gavi is 40km from Periyar tiger reserve is the neighboring elephant reserve. It is unique in that largely unknown by tourists, but offers, more or less, the same tropical forest and wild life.

It’s a gift to the modern world and known as the mother of all martial arts.Kalaripayattu originated in ancient South India. Kalaripayattu is a Dravidian martial art from the Indian state of Kerala. One of the oldest fighting systems in existence, it is practiced in Kerala and by the Nadars, Ezhavas as well as Mappilas and Syrian Malabar Nasranis.
Kalarippayttu includes strikes, kicks, grappling, preset forms, weaponry and healing methods. Regional variants are classified according to geographical position in Kerala; these are the northern style of the Malayalis, the southern style of the Tamils and the central style from inner Kerala
